Band Camp [Apr. 30th, 2004|02:34 pm]
[mood |hyperimpatient]

Two questions:

1) What're the dates/times for Band Camp?
2) Can anyone possibly ask Mr. Test to get me the number of girls joining the flag squad next year? I've tried e-mailing him a couple of times, but he still hasn't gotten back to me -.-;

I smell a field trip!! [Feb. 22nd, 2004|03:25 pm]
[mood |determineddetermined]
[music |Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time]

Jen and I went to see the High Mountain Symphony yesterday, which is the former William Paterson orchestra (they changed the name last year) and it got me thinking. See, they only had about 26 people playing, half of which were visiting musicians that didn't play for all of the pieces, yet they still managed to sound like a huge professional orchestra, even Jen was impressed ~.^

Just goes to show you what can be accomplished by even a small band if they work hard and show some passion and dedication. So I propose a BGA band field trip to the next High Mountain Symphony concert. It's entitled "Youthful Celebration" on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 8pm. There's a 7pm preconcert conversation as well if there's interest. The tickets are $8 each, which you must admit is well worth it. I'd be more than happy to act as guide and chaperone and purchase the tickets.

I really think the experience would be beneficial to the band. We've gone on field trips before...well...we went on one, to see Blast on Broadway, and this is no different. Perhaps someone could mention this to Mr. Test? ~.^

Yay Band! College Marching Band, that is [Feb. 12th, 2004|11:57 pm]

[mood |awakeawake]
[music |"You Raise Me Up"-Josh Groban]

My dad found this cute little blurb in an RU magazine article about guilty pleasures:

Marching Bands
This one time, at band camp...I mean, this one time, at college, I realized that marching bands weren't all that lame. I know hwat you're thinking: marching bands? What's so guilty about that? Try watching a game with some of your friends and thinking, or even daring to say, "That's pretty cool. They spelled out MIAMI," or, "That's funny. They palyed the Looney Tunes theme song when the refs came out." You'll get some very interesting-read: sideways-glances. But what's not to love? Fight songs are sweet for one reason: They are played by a band and not over a P.A. system. Plus, anyone ballsy enough to slip into a polyester jumpsuit and wear a hat topped with a feather just to represent his or her school is either the ultimate fan or knows what really went on at band camp. Regardless, Band Geek, you're all right by me. Keep on keepin' on. --Matt Garrett

And one more thing. Anyone listen to that new(ish) Josh Groban cd? Ok, Linoriel got me into it last Sunday when her and Audgie "kidnapped" me, and I've been listening to it for a good part of tonight. And you know what I've realized? For as beautiful of a voice as young Mr. Groban has, the real star of the album is the French horn player! You have to listen for it, but there's some really great horn parts.

Color Guard [Feb. 9th, 2004|01:14 pm]
This is a complaint. The color guard sucks. Why? Because anybody and everybody is allowed on it despite their lack of dedication or skill....I dont care if its a 2 person squad, try outs are needed and kicking people out is needed. If they were a bit dedicated they could look half decent. Tracking people down and dragging them to flag is not cool. If I were in charge people would be kicked out. Not at band camp? Tough. You'll have to spend every day an hour later working on it with me....of course...I'm not in charge at all..but gah! When will they shape up?? Kim has some mad skills...the band has enough problems trying to look decent with such a small size, a huge awful color guard destroys the half time show. Lets get with it people.

Welcome! [Feb. 6th, 2004|07:48 pm]
[mood |accomplishedaccomplished]
[music |Seinfeld]

Hey there, and welcome to the Band Room!

I'm a former (T.T) BGA band geek myself, and have plenty of fond memories in the band room, as I'm sure many of the band members do. This isn't for necessarily just band members, but also the flag squad and chorus members.

So, post memories, updates, raves, complaints, and anything else pertaining to the BGA music department.

Have fun!
